hi if some one could help me out with this would be very much appreciated its an on the job assignment and it says observe a small group of children identify an ''area of interest'' to them include the ages/stages of the children ''''im doing OUTSIDE SANDPIT 3 AND 4 year olds STAGES- can share and tke turns becoming more independent shows empathy toward others and involves in imaginitive play '' i think thats what they are asking for when they say stages not to sure?? than it says HOW LEARNING AROUND THIS INTEREST COULD BE EXTENDED THROUGH PLAY?????? IM NOT SURE HOW TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION does it mean like building sandcastles etc......?

SUPPORT THE CHILDREN IN IDENTIFYING ASPECTS OF THE 'AREA OF INTEREST'' WHAT AREAS OF PLAY MAY BE SUITABLE AND WHAT RESOURCES (PHYSICAL AND HUMAN0 THEY REQUIRE?

OBSERVATION THAT IDENTIFIED THE AREA IF INTEREST?

AREAS THAT LINK TO THE INTEREST AREA?

A DESCRIPTION OF THE EXPERIENCE?

SAFETY FACTORS?

CAREGIVERS ROLE IN SUPPORTING THE PLAY?

IMPLEMENT YOUR EXPERIENCE /PLAY EPISODE WITH THE CHILDREN?

HI there

I think that you could mention that they are no longer parallel playing (if this is the case - usually by 4 it is) and are involved in play that involves others, that they are showing respect for other childrens ideas and appreciating differences.

As for how learning around this interest could be extended through play - perhaps using items to pour and measure the sand - cups/jugs etc, this is learning through play.

Resources could be the measuring implements, or providing cars & see if they build roads etc.

Safety - clean sand, syringes, sharp sticks etc - you could say sandpit raked regularly/cleaned regularly/topped up or whatever the case may be.

Caregivers role could be a facilitator, rather than taking over the play.

Hope this helps
