Question:

describe how you would go about acquiring or improving upon the selected skill from EYLF cultural competence

my selected skill is; being aware of one's own world view

Suggested answer:

i would work on 'being aware of one's own world view' b/c knowing about our own cultural identity is an important and first step in the process of becoming culturally competent. when i understand the beliefs and values that are important to me and the way that my own cultural background has shaped my own life then i become more able to acknowledge how these factors impact on others or at very least i would be able to recognize that others may view the world through different cultural lenses.

i am just up to it. can somebody please help me. does my answer fulfill the question requirement or not, if not what should i add more

You actually have a pretty good response. If you want to add anything more the following may help:
Understanding Your Own Worldview

Since our perceptions are shaped by our view of the world, the caregiver needs to examine and understand how she/he sees the world. One’s worldview is learned through socialization, from childhood to adulthood, and constantly reinforced by the culture in which we live. It is the taken-for-granted view of “the way things are” and most of the time unquestioned and invisible.

“To understand worldviews, therefore, we must examine the beliefs/belief systems and the social values that they contain.” (LeBaron, M. 2003).

Self-awareness: Becoming aware of your own worldview (Adapted from Buhin et al. 2004)

1. Learning About Your Own Culture
2. Understanding Your Personal Worldview
3. Appreciating Your Own Multiple Identities
4. Acknowledging assumptions and biases.
5. Accepting Responsibility and Tolerating Ambiguity
6. Recognizing Limits of Your Competence

Hope this helps,
