QUESTION:

a) Select a topic for your new service policy (You are unable to use what is already in place as you will need to draft the policy, develop a consultation plan, create a formal report, and implement the policy.)

b) Research current policy trends and devise an assessment tool/checklist that will support you in creating a policy of your choice. (Hint – refer to the learning resource p387)

Ensure your assessment tool and research covers the following points:

 Elements that must be included in a policy

 Up to date research with current and contemporary views on best practice (ACECQA, 2014, p110)

 Code of practice

 Duty of care

 Current policy trends on an international, national, state/territory, local level.

I have chosen to do iPad usage or screen time for the children,

I am just confused what its asking for when it asks to research current policy trends.

any other information that can help me start this would be fantastic,

I have already researched what experts say about screen time for children under 5, what health effects it has, why centre might be using the iPads for the children, etc

The policy is to be implemented at the centre meaning that the children use IPADs or watch TV, programs, use computers etc. In regards to policy trends see if you can find a policy on computers etc in early childhood settings...

Thanks for the reply,

I know I am implementing a Policy for the centre, my policy is going to be around screen time as my centr doesn't have one yet,

You say try and find a Policy on the computer, I have all our policy's printed off in my folder,

Do I just attach these to my research ? I just don't know what it means to research them?

Thanks Nikki
