The Co-ordinator at Blue Bay Early Learning Centre, Jai, has a list of maintenance jobs that he has been meaning to address. Jai has been busy with other things and is not good at delegating, so the maintenance list has simply been put aside.
a) If there is an accident or serious injury as a result of Jai’s failure to attend to maintenance issues who is legally responsible? Give a reason for your response.
Is the co-ordinator himself responsible or the director of the centre responsible? Co-ordinator himself because it was his negligence and director because they have to keep an eye of what the co-ordinator has been doing...
b) What strategies could be put in place to avoid this situation occurring in the future?
Distribute the work among other co-ordinators and assistants.
Jai should prioritize his work and give importance to maintenance.
c) Read Jai’s Maintenance List and:
i. Identify the potential hazards and/or risks associated with each item on the list.
ii. Rate each item in terms of potential for serious risk to health/safety according to priority for repair.
High Priority :1-2 days Medium Priority: next week Low Priority: next few weeks
