Your Question?
Question 4 of this assessment

background - Joel is 4yrs old has been diagnosed with glue ear earlier this year and has to go to hospital in 3 weeks to have tonsils removed and grommets inserted.

List at least three ways to prepare Joel for his stay in hospital to reduce the stress and fear he might be experiencing and help him to express his feelings. How will you encourage him to talk about his fears? What would you say to him?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
this is what i have so far

i am kind of stuck on this question

Reading a book to him - Harry goes to hospital by D Radford or Lachlan goes to hospital from CHW westmead

Setting up a play area playing hospitals/ nurses and doctors this will help Joel become familiar with the hospital settings and will allow him to express his feelings ( anger, fear, sad etc.)

any help will be much appreciated

4. Preparing Joel for going into hospital

List at least three ways to prepare Joel for his stay in hospital to reduce the stress and fear that he might be experiencing and help him to express his feelings. How will you encourage him to talk about his fears? What would you say to him?

this is my answer so far...

Speak to Joel

Read books

Helping Joel learn what to expect can help him feel comfortable about the experience. One way to do this is to sit down with him and read some books together.

Allow time for hospital play

im just wondering do i have to speak as a day care carer? just having trouble how to word my answers

Yes, you will need to state your answers as an educator...

You got some good ideas you could also:

show him videos (you tube) of what it's like in hospital
explain what's going to happen in a positive and gentle way
re-assure him that his parents will be with him (talk to mum and dad about which parent will be there)
ask him how he feels about hospital and answer any questions

Hope this helps,
