Hi everyone,

I read something about adult:child ratios for outside play, which mentioned that there should be two staff in the yard at all times. My director believes that it comes down to how many children are in the yard but I didn't understand it that way. I am having trouble finding it again and was planning on bringing it up at the next staff meeting. If anyone knows where I can find this statement about the ratios, it will be a big help.

Thanks in advance

Just having a look at the staff:child ratio given by ACECQA and it doesn't specifically anything about ratio requirements for outdoor play. From what I understand it is based on the number of children directly in your care...

My centre uses a two people outside rule. Not sure if it's required, but my director insists on this as the yard is much bigger than the rooms and often has more children. It's a lot harder to supervise appropriately and I definitely feel more comfortable with another person there! Plus our yard is an odd shape and that adds to supervision problems.
