Hi there,

I'm wondering about the working towards a qualification rule. I work at a centre that recently employed someone who is studying their diploma. They do not hold a cert 3 and they've only done year 10 work placement. Their course runs for 1 1/2 years and they've only just begun studying, they're aren't even halfway through the course. Is this allowed? I don't feel comfortable having her in my room, she has done a couple of breaks and it was worrying.

This is the following requirements for actively working towards a CERT 3 Qualifcation:

Certificate III level

You can be counted towards meeting the certificate III level qualification requirements if you are:

enrolled in an ACECQA approved qualification and have started study
making satisfactory progress towards completing the course
meeting the requirements to maintain enrolment.

The Educator you are referring to can be counted towards cert 3 requirements but not as a diploma qualified educator. I undertsand that you may not feel comfortable due to the lack of experience but this is an opportunity for you to further develop and train this educator.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.
