Hi all!

I was just wondering something. My high school is opening a Primary school starting at the prep age group. I am planning to study my Diploma of children's services next year. My question is am I able to work in the prep room as a prep teachers aide with my cert three while studying my diploma? Or do I need different qualifications?

Thanks for all the help :)

Hmm.. You may need your Cert III Education Support if it's a school position. I know some people who have their Diploma and work in schools, but I know they prefer the Education Support certificate.

Best to directly ask them though! GOOD LUCK! :)

Thanks for the reply Racheli! Thanks for wishing me luck too.

Just an update for the post: when I say prep teachers aide I mean doing what an assistant educator would do at a childcare centre, but for prep aged children. I just think it's called prep teachers aide. Maybe it's called Prep assistant educator. (Did that make sense?) thanks again!

From what I understand you don't even need to be qualified to be a teachers aide. As a teachers aide you will be involved in various professional development opportunities or to gain a necessary qualifications. The purpose for gaining a qualification is to progress to a higher teacher aid role. As long as you have a Blue Card you good to go.

Here is some more information:

Hope this helps,

Thanks L.A!

Wow I had no idea that you didn't need to be qualified. That came as a huge shock. Thanks for the info, it really helped out!
