I just finished my first placements for my diploma of early childhood education and care and the owner of the center offered me a causal position.

since I'am new to this field and this is my first jobs in the childcare field, I'am not sure what to expect when it comes to the pay. since i am only finished about 60% of my course and i have no experience I'am not expecting much.

Do you know what position you will be covering such as room leader or assistant position?

What have they offered?

I'm sure I'll be acting as an assistant, and I'll just be working with the full staff member and they'll be telling me what to do. They have three rooms a baby, toddler and kinder, my first shift is covering one of the employee in the kinder room and I'll be assisting them.

Since you are currently completing your Diploma course you can be counted as a cert 3 educator because you are "actively working towards" your qualification as you meet the following requirements:

being enrolled in a course for the qualification
having commenced the course
making satisfactory progress towards completion
meeting the requirements to maintain enrolment

Ref: Actively Working Towards A Qualification

Taking this into consideration as you will be counted towards the ratio as a cert 3 educator your casual minimum wage is $25.15/per hour.

Hope this helps,
